Spill Response Trainer

Overview

Congratulations! You are a newly qualified radiation worker assigned to MJW Corporation's virtual laboratory. Your first job is to familiarize yourself with the wide variety of items within your virtual workspace. Before long you'll begin to feel right at home in your virtual lab. But don't get too comfortable! A beaker of radioactive liquid awaits your careful handling. One false mouse click and the unmistakable sound of breaking glass signals the beginning of your very own desktop radiological spill!

MJW Corporation's Spill Response Trainer, complete with beautifully rendered 3D graphics and sound effects, provides an entertaining method to evaluate a trainee's response to radioactive spills. The trainee must combat the spill and control the spread of contamination by using absorbent wipes, rubber gloves, barrier tape and a functioning GM survey meter. If the situation gets out of hand, the helpful wisdom of the RSO is just a phone call away!

Section Breakdown

  • Stop the spill: This is accomplished by using absorbent wipes to cover the spill.

  • Warn others: This is accomplished by yelling out "SPILL!" by using the Speak Button. This step should be done almost immediately after the spill. Yelling after the spill has been picked up is too late.

  • Isolate the area: This can be accomplished in one of two ways: Barrier tape found in a bench drawer can be used or the door may be locked. If the barrier is removed before the spill is picked up, the spill is not isolated.

  • Minimize your exposure: This is accomplished by using good contamination controls. When you touch the spill with your gloved or bare hand, contamination will be transferred. Anything you touch afterward will become contaminated. Use the pancake probe to spot check your hands periodically. Remove contaminated gloves. Decontaminate your hands by using the sink as soon as possible. Perform a detailed survey of the area after decontaminating the spill area.
