Matthew McFee appointed Chair of the Program Committee for the HPS
At the conclusion of this year’s annual Health Physics Society meeting in Minneapolis, Matthew McFee of MJW Corporation, Inc. was appointed Chair of the Program Committee for the HPS. Matt, who has been with MJW for 10 years (has it been 10 years already?!?!), had just finished a three-year term as a member of the Program Committee, during which time he served as Task Force Chair for the 2008 Pittsburgh HPS meeting, and also served as a member of the 2007 Portland and the 2009 Minneapolis annual HPS meetings. At the close of the Minneapolis meeting, he took over as Program Chair. “I think the Program Committee is one of the most important in the HPS; I have really enjoyed being a member of the committee for the past three years, and I am honored to be given the chance to chair it,” says McFee. “The Midyear and Annual HPS meetings are among the most visible and well-known things we participate in as scientists, and I’m looking forward to making them all extremely useful to the membership.” The position of Program Chair is for a one-year term, but typically (for the sake of continuity, and at the pleasure of incoming HPS President-elect) the position is given a three-year run.
“I encourage everyone to get involved in the HPS, especially younger professionals. We are a maturing Society, and young blood always helps revitalize it. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities that MJW has given me to participate and contribute, not only within the HPS but also professionally.”
