Dose Assessment
MJW has assembled one of the largest groups of expert internal dosimetrists in the country. Many of the dosimetrists in the group worked to accomplish the Mound
Dose Assessment Project from 1997 through 2001 completing ~1500 dose reconstructions. Many more internal dosimetrists have been added to our staff to provide
their expertise to the NIOSH Dose Reconstruction Project initiated in late 2002, as part of the ORAU Team and their efforts to meet the needs of NIOSH under the
EEOICPA law. (See www.CDC.GOV/NIOSH/OCAS for more project details). For this 5-year project, the number of dose reconstructions requiring the services of MJW internal dosimetry experts may exceed 20,000.

MJW’s internal dosimetrists had been trained and educated by nationally and internationally recognized experts. Our internal dosimetry staff have grown up with several
of the historic computer codes used for assessment including CINDY, and Remedy, and many of the dose codes maintained by the Radiation Shielding Information Center such
as INDOS and INREM II (See http://www-rsicc.ornl.gov/rsicc.html ).
For the NIOSH job, MJW staff is working with a relatively new dose assessment program IMBA which uses the latest lung and biokinetic models to calculate internal dose.
Regardless of the software used, MJW staff has a keen understanding of the latest ICRP model developments as they relate to dose assessment. Several MJW staff has served
and continued to serve on the National Standards committees relating to internal dosimetry.
